"It is with profound sadness that I received the news of the passing of Nadine Gordimer.
Nadine was a literary giant and one of our most talented novelists. Her writing brought to life so many aspects of our country and the trials and tribulations its people. We salute her for having the courage to do this.
I last saw her at the premiere of Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom and I was honoured to have her in attendance.
My sympathies go to her family and I wish them strength during this difficult time."
