Oscar producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced last night that Irish super band, U2 will perform 'Ordinary Love' from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom live during the Academy Awards on 2 March. 'Ordinary Love' has been nominated for Best Original Song and is tipped as the favourite in the category.
U2 who have been supporters of Nelson Mandela and the anti-apartheid movement since the 1970's were inspired to write the song for Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom after watching an early version of the film.
Producer, Anant Singh commented, "It is a huge honour to have U2 invited by the Academy to perform 'Ordinary Love' live at the Oscars. The performance will also serve as a tribute to the film and to Madiba who has been an inspiration to U2 for decades."
Last month 'Ordinary Love' won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song. The Soundtrack of Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom is currently on sale in South Africa.
